Radikaa Sarathkumar alleges hidden cameras in vanity vans
Tamil actor Radikaa Sarathkumar has claimed that she once discovered hidden cameras in vanity vans while working on a project in Kerala. Sarathkumar alleged that these cameras were used to secretly record women as they changed clothes, and the footage was stored in a database. This revelation comes amid ongoing discussions and revelations about sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry, following the public release of the Justice Hema Committee report.
Sarathkumar recounts incident of hidden cameras in vanity vans
In an interview with Namaste Kerala, Sarathkumar recounted the incident where she saw people on set laughing at a video. Upon inquiry, she was informed that the video was captured using hidden cameras in vanity vans. "I was told you just type the name of the artiste, and you will find a video of them changing dress. I saw the video," she said.
Sarathkumar confronted crew, threatened them over hidden cameras
Following the incident, Sarathkumar confronted the crew about the hidden cameras and threatened them. She also warned against installing any cameras in her vanity van. "I told the van team that I would hit them with chappals [slippers] if I found a camera in the vehicle. I was angry. I insisted that I wanted to be safe and didn't want the van at all," she said.
'I was afraid to go into my vanity'
Sarathkumar continued, "This system is wrong. After the incident, I told other female artists about the hidden cameras. I was afraid to go into my vanity van after the incident. It is a private space for us to change, to take rest, or to have food." Though she made these explosive revelations, the veteran actor refused to take any names. "If we spit looking upwards, it will fall on our face only. So I don't want to take names."
Sarathkumar questions why no man has spoken out against perpetrators
Sarathkumar questioned why no man has come forward to call out these perpetrators in the industry. She said, "I was wondering why there was so much delay in the release of the Justice Hema Committee report. I have been in the industry for 46 years. Of course, there have been people who have tried to misbehave with me." "Women should be empowered to say 'No' when such incidents happen to them. No man has said anything in any industry. "
Sarathkumar's revelation follows sexual harassment allegations in Malayalam film industry
Sarathkumar's revelation follows recent allegations of sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry. Several female actors have come forward with their experiences, and a complaint has been filed against CPI(M) MLA and actor Mukesh, actor Jayasurya, and Edavela Babu for sexual and verbal assault, among others.
