Mohanlal's 'Thudarum' may hit theaters in May: Report
What's the story
The much-awaited Malayalam film Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy and starring Mohanlal and Shobana, has been pushed from January 30 to tentative May 1, 2025, per OTTPlay.
The delay is reportedly due to unresolved post-theatrical business arrangements, specifically OTT and satellite deals.
Despite the setback, fans remain optimistic about Mohanlal's performances in both Thudarum and Prithviraj Sukumaran's L2: Empuraan, releasing in March.
Clarification
Director Moorthy clarified rumors about 'Thudarum' release
Addressing rumors of the delayed release, director Moorthy earlier said the team never officially announced a release date.
He also revealed that the delayed theatrical premiere of Thudarum is due to a clash with its streaming date.
Reportedly, an OTT deal for Thudarum has now been locked, but the platform has scheduled it for later in 2025, hence the decision to postpone its theatrical debut till May.
Financial impact
'Thudarum' delay could impose financial strain on producers
The delay in Thudarum's release will probably put a financial strain on the producer, who will have to pay hefty interest until the theatrical business starts.
Social media buzz indicates Sony LIV may have purchased the streaming rights for Thudarum, but neither party has officially confirmed it.
The film reunites Mohanlal and Shobana, who had earlier worked on films like Thenmavin Kombathu, Nadodikaattu, Minnaram and Pavithram.
