Mohanlal quietly resigns from Malayalam film body amid misconduct scandal
In a significant development, actor and producer Mohanlal has resigned from his position as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). This move comes in the wake of a mass resignation within AMMA, with all 17 executive committee members reportedly stepping down. The shakeup occurred after actor Siddique, who was being considered for the general secretary post, faced sexual abuse allegations.
Allegations and dissent led to AMMA dissolution
Mohanlal's resignation was reportedly triggered by accusations of his alleged inability to respond effectively to the Hema Committee Report. Fellow actor Shammy Thilakan claimed that "Mohanlal had lost his ability to respond" following the emergence of several sexual assault allegations. The growing dissent within AMMA over its stance on the Hema Committee Report and increasing allegations led to Mohanlal's departure, signaling a significant shift in the organization.
Siddique faces serious sexual assault allegations
Actor and producer Siddique has been accused of sexually assaulting a young actor in 2016. The victim alleged that she met Siddique online, who promised her a role in his upcoming film. According to the reports, he then asked her to make some "adjustments" for him. The allegations include claims that Siddique raped the woman in a hotel and performed lewd acts in front of her.
