
Mohanlal to reunite with Priyadarshan for director's 100th film
What's the story
Legendary actor Mohanlal has confirmed that he will team up with veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan for the latter's landmark 100th movie.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Mohanlal said, "In Priyadarshan's first film, I played the lead role."
"Now, after he completes one or two more movies, it will be his 100th film. So, we are planning to reunite for his 100th film. The first film and the 100th film—same director, same actor."
Priyadarshan's debut
Priyadarshan's debut film was 'Poochakkoru Mookkuthi'
For the unversed, Priyadarshan debuted with the Malayalam-language screwball comedy Poochakkoru Mookkuthi.
Both written and directed by Priyadarshan, the 1984 film took inspiration from Charles Dickens's play The Strange Gentleman.
It was a landmark in Malayalam cinema, paving the way for screwball comedies in the mid-1980s.
The film also starred Shankar, Menaka, M. G. Soman, Nedumudi Venu, C. I. Paul, Sukumari, and Jagathy Sreekumar.
Film remakes
'Poochakkoru Mookkuthi' was later remade in 5 languages
The cult classic Poochakkoru Mookkuthi was later remade into five different languages, including Hindi as Hungama.
Interestingly, Priyadarshan also directed the Hindi version.
It starred Paresh Rawal, Akshaye Khanna, Tiku Talsania, and Shakti Kapoor, among others.
Meanwhile, Priyadarshan is currently working on Akshay Kumar-starrer Bhooth Bangla.
It will be released next year.
Upcoming projects
Mohanlal is busy with 'L2: Empuraan' sequel
On the professional front, Mohanlal is busy with the sequel of the 2019 film Lucifer, L2: Empuraan.
The film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is the second part of a planned trilogy.
The story will delve into the aftermath of the events of the first part with Mohanlal reprising his role as Stephen Nedumpally.
The film also stars Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, and Eriq Ebouaney.
It will release on March 27.
