Network's entertainment president makes the official announcement
Karey Burke, the entertainment president of ABC, was speaking at the winter press tour of the Television Critics Association when she announced the show's ending. She confirmed that Modern Family had been renewed for the 11th season and this would be the last. However, she promised fans that there would be 'more milestone events' in the final season that fans 'won't want to miss'.
'Modern Family' is one of ABC's best shows
For those unaware, despite a fall in show ratings since season 9, Modern Family continues to remain ABC's number 2 comedy, immediately behind The Conners. It is also considered to be the number 4 series overall on the broadcasting channel.
Stars and show makers bid goodbye to 'Modern Family'
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitchell Pritchett, waved a wistful goodbye on social media, saying "Will be hard to say goodbye. Love my family". Show maker, Christopher Lloyd, playfully said, "For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment. We have chosen a different path by doing one more season of Modern Family".

Despite airing for its final season, Modern Family is leaving behind a rich legacy of awards. The show has won 21 Emmy Awards, including 5 consecutive awards for outstanding comedy. It has also won multiple SAG awards and a Golden Globe award.
