Netflix, 'Mirzapur' creator Puneet Krishna collaborate for two new series
Puneet Krishna, who wrote and created Mirzapur for Amazon Prime Video, will now collaborate with Netflix for two of their new series- a dark comedy and a drama. Taking about the ventures, Krishna said, "My association with Netflix is in-line with my vision for myself as a storyteller and for the evolution of my body of work as I have imagined it to be."
I hope I can continue entertaining, says Krishna
Krishna appreciated Netflix's "sense of innovation," which helps creators like him "to grow and evolve." He added, "I continue to be grateful to the audience who have loved my past work and I hope I can continue entertaining them as I start this new chapter. (sic)" The two series are touted to go on floors either late this year or early next year.
'Puneet is undoubtedly one of India's finest storytellers'
Monika Shergill, VP Content, Netflix India, said that they were "thrilled" to have Krishna aboard and called him one of the "finest storytellers" of the country. "Puneet is undoubtedly one of India's finest storytellers and we are huge fans of his powerful and inventive writing. We're thrilled to welcome Puneet and can't wait to bring his passion and vision alive on Netflix," she added.
Krishna is famous for creating Amazon Prime's 'Mirzapur'
Krishna started his career as a co-writer on the Excel Entertainment's movie, Bangistan. He was also a writer of Amazon Prime's debut Indian original series, Inside Edge. His most significant work came in the form of web-series Mirzapur, also produced under the Excel Entertainment banner. Bangistan's director Karan Anshuman and Vineet Krishna have worked as creators alongside him.
'Mirzapur' recently ran into legal trouble, SC had issued notice
The show, which has been widely appreciated by audience and critics alike, ran into legal trouble earlier this year. An FIR was filed against its producers for allegedly promoting social enmity and also presenting the region of Mirzapur in poor light. The makers were issued a notice by the Supreme Court at the behest of another petitioner, who had similar claims about defamation.
