What's the story
Mindy Kaling has defended her friend Meghan Markle amid the backlash following an episode of Markle's new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
In the episode, Markle corrected Kaling for not using her Sussex surname.
"You know, I had a great time," said Kaling about her appearance on the show during Thursday's episode of The View.
"I noticed that whenever I do something, anything related to Meghan it becomes...big news."
Viral reaction
Kaling addressed viral TikTok videos about the incident
Kaling also spoke about the viral TikTok videos that have been dissecting her reaction when Markle corrected her.
"We were making sandwiches and then they'll push in on my face on TikTok and they'll be like, 'Look at this emotion you felt,' and I honestly didn't even remember it because we shot it like nine months ago," Kaling explained.
Positive experience
Kaling enjoyed filming with Markle despite criticism
Despite the backlash, Kaling said she loved filming with Markle.
"I loved my time with Meghan," Kaling gushed. "I'm also like, let her promote her show...it was great and really fascinating seeing the reaction."
In the second episode of With Love, Meghan, titled Welcome to the Party, Markle hosted Kaling for lunch and taught her how to throw a tea party for kids and their parents.
Name significance
Markle emphasized the importance of her married name
During the episode, when Kaling said, "People wouldn't believe that Meghan Markle ate at Jack in the Box," Prince Harry's wife was quick to remind her of her married name.
"It's so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I'm Sussex now," the Suits alum said.
"I didn't know how meaningful that would be to me, but it just means so much to go, this is our family name, our little family name."
