Dhanush's 50th film, 'Raayan' makes it to Academy Awards library
In a milestone achievement, the screenplay of Dhanush's 50th film, Raayan, has been selected for inclusion in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences library. Released theatrically on July 26, the film has garnered a positive audience response. Notably, Dhanush starred in and directed Raayan, marking his second directorial venture, which has made a significant impact at the box office by surpassing ₹50cr (nett) in India.
'Raayan' plot and production details unveiled
Raayan, a gangster drama, explores the lives of three brothers, played by Dhanush, Kalidas Jayaram, and Sundeep Kishan. The film was produced by Sun Pictures and boasts an ensemble cast including Selvaraghavan, SJ Suryah, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Saravanan. The production house announced the screenplay's Academy Library inclusion on social media stating, "#Raayan screenplay has been selected to be a part of the library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences."

'Raayan' joins these Indian screenplays in the Academy library
This is not the first time an Indian screenplay has received this honor. Last year, the screenplay for Parking, directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan and featuring Harish Kalyan, Indhuja, and MS Bhaskar, was also added to the esteemed collection of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This aside, screenplays of Joram, Last Film Show, and Vivek Agnihotri's The Vaccine War are also part of the Academy's Core Collection.
