Watch Pattinson's 'Mickey 17' clone die in freezing water, ravines
The first trailer for Mickey 17, Robert Pattinson's upcoming film, has been released. The film features Pattinson as a character who is repeatedly cloned to navigate the perilous landscape of an alien world. Each time Mickey dies, a new clone is created with the memories of all his previous versions. The trailer showcases several of Mickey's deaths, including drowning in freezing water, falling into a frozen ravine, and being shot. Here's a trailer breakdown.
Trailer shows Mickey's struggle with repeated deaths
Throughout the trailer, various characters ask Mickey, "What's it like to die?" Despite his numerous experiences with death, Mickey doesn't have a clear answer. He admits that even after 17 deaths, he still hates the experience. In one scene, a female automated voice asks Mickey if he's experiencing any vertigo. He responds, "I guess I am feeling a little dizzy," just as his hand is severed by space debris.

'Mickey 17' marks Bong Joon-ho's return to filmmaking
Mickey 17 is adapted from the science fiction novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton. It is the first film from South Korean director Bong Joon-ho since his 2019 Oscar-winning hit Parasite. The film features an international cast, including Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie, and Toni Collette. Earlier, Pattinson praised Bong at CinemaCon, stating, "I've been the biggest fan of Bong for many, many years; he's my hero." He described the script as "the most unusual, bizarre, funny script."
Pattinson describes 'Mickey' as having 'lowest expectations of his life'
Pattinson described his character, saying, "Mickey 17 is someone who has the lowest expectations of his life, and yet the world keeps pushing those expectations, to the point where he has a job that tortures him every day." He added, "And then 18 comes along, and he's got frontal lobe damage and no self-control, libido out of control. It's like playing an evil brother or twin." To note, Mickey 17 is scheduled to hit theaters on January 31, 2025.
