The Tamil family drama Meiyazhagan, featuring Karthi and Arvind Swami, is making waves at the box office. Released in both Tamil and Telugu on September 27, the film has been doing exceptionally well. In its first weekend alone, it crossed the ₹10 crore mark within just three days of its release.
'Meiyazhagan' held its own against 'Devara: Part 1'
Despite facing stiff competition from Jr NTR's big-budget film Devara: Part 1, Meiyazhagan maintained a steady pace at the box office. On its fourth day, the film added another ₹2 crore to its earnings, bringing the net collection to ₹16.05 crore. The gross worldwide collection now stands at an impressive ₹24 crore.
'Meiyazhagan' enjoyed high occupancy in Tamil and Telugu theaters
On Monday, September 30, Meiyazhagan recorded an overall Tamil theater occupancy of 22.01% and a Telugu theater occupancy of 19.15%. This high occupancy rate contributed significantly to the film's robust box office performance. The family drama is directed by C Prem Kumar and features a star-studded cast including Sri Divya, Swathi Konde, Rajkiran, Devadarshini, Karunakaran, and V Jayaprakash in significant roles.
'Meiyazhagan' plot and lead actor's heartfelt message
Meiyazhagan tells the story of a 40-year-old man who returns to his hometown after 22 years of absence. This visit triggers a significant change in his life. Lead actor Karthi recently expressed his gratitude for the film's success on X, stating, "Dear friends!
