Marvel Studios selects Chloe Zhao to direct 'The Eternals'
Marvel Studios is bringing to life, a potentially huge moneymaking franchise, 'The Eternals'. The comic title was created by Marvel legend, Jack Kirby. The movie will be directed by Chloe Zhao. Notably, Zhao was considered for the standalone 'Black Widow' movie but the job ultimately went to Cate Shortland. With this, Marvel is looking to kick off its post Avengers 4 phase. Here's more.
Who are the Eternals?
The title was created by Jack Kirby in 1976. The story revolved around the Eternals, near immortal beings with superpowers and their monstrous variants, the Deviants. Both of them were created by cosmic beings called Celestials. The influence of works like 'Chariots of the Gods' is evident in Kirby's story. Notably, this book explored that ancient Gods might be aliens.
What will the Eternals look like in the movie?
The Eternals are being introduced for the first time into the Marvel cinematic universe and probably their backstories will be explored. One aspect of the film will, reportedly, involve a love story between Ikaris, a man with cosmic energy and Sersi, someone who enjoys moving among humans. It will be a perfect opportunity for Marvel to assemble a cast of diverse shapes and sizes.
Avengers done, Marvel is now exploring new horizons
Avengers 4 will see some major changes, as theories swirl that some of our favorite superheroes might actually die. With the Avengers needing new leadership and restructuring, Marvel wants another popular franchise to take its place. Further, introducing new characters always helps to create crossovers whenever necessary. Will 'The Eternals' take Marvel onto a successful post Avengers 4 phase? Only time will tell.
