'Sherlock's Mark Gatiss to write, star in new drama, 'Bookish'
English actor-comedian Mark Gatiss, known for his work on Benedict Cumberbatch-led Sherlock, is set to write and star in a new British TV drama titled Bookish, reported Deadline. The six-part series will be broadcast on UKTV's Alibi channel. The story is reportedly set in 1946 in London and follows Gabriel Book (Gatiss), a bookshop owner turned detective who aids police in solving crimes.

Surrounding him are a group of "loveable, damaged misfits who he informally protects, cajoles, and mentors."
Star-studded cast will join Gatiss in 'Bookish'
Polly Walker, recognized for her roles in Bridgerton and Line of Duty, will co-star as Trottie, Book's vibrant wife. The series will also feature guest appearances from Joely Richardson (The Gentleman), Daniel Mays (Code 404), and Jonas Nay (The Master Butcher). Other key cast members include Connor Finch as Jack, Elliot Levey as Inspector Bliss, and Buket Komur as Nora.
'Bookish' to air on Alibi in 2025
The show is being produced by Eagle Eye Drama and is expected to air on Alibi in 2025. The international distribution rights are held by Germany's Beta Film. The series is a collaborative effort with Belgium-based Happy Duck Films, supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter. Matthew Sweet is co-writing the series with Gatiss. Each case in the series will span two 70-minute episodes, blending post-war nostalgia with the era's "daring spirit."
