Margot Robbie will star in a Barbie movie
'Suicide Squad' actress Margot Robbie is in talks with Warner Bros. to star in an upcoming Barbie movie. If negotiations are successful, Robbie will also be producing the film through her LuckyChap banner. The Barbie feature film could signal the start of another successful franchise for the actress who plays Harley Quinn in DC's movie franchise. Read all about Robbie's exciting upcoming project here.
A Barbie girl, in a Barbie world
Barbie is the popular toy series owned by Mattel. A renowned brand of toys, with over $3 billion in sales, worldwide, Barbie has donned over 150 roles in her fifty plus years of existence. These roles include princess, mermaid, movie star, and president, among others.
All dolled up and ready to go
Mattel partnered with Sony for a Barbie film in 2014. Notably, Amy Schumer was cast in 2015. The film promised to explore feminism, gender identity and be an adult comedy. When Schumer left, citing 'scheduling conflicts', Anne Hathaway was supposed to step in. However, when Sony pushed back the release from August 2018 to May 2020, Mattel made a new deal with Warner Bros.
All within Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. is reportedly looking at Patty Jenkins, of 'Wonder Woman' fame, to direct the Barbie movie, but no talks have been officially held. If this project materializes, Robbie would be in two Warner Bros. franchise projects, Barbie and her Harley Quinn DCU role.
The rising fame of Margot Robbie
Robbie shot to fame with critically acclaimed Martin Scorsese film, 'The Wolf of Wall Street'. She won an Oscar nomination last year for 'I, Tonya'. She will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in DC's upcoming movie 'Birds of Prey'. The 28-year-old will also appear in 'Mary Queen of Scots' and Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', where she plays actress Sharon Tate.
