Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi to lead Emerald Fennell's 'Wuthering Heights'
Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie and BAFTA nominee Jacob Elordi are set to star in the upcoming adaptation of Emily Bronte's classic romance novel, Wuthering Heights. Per the reports, the film adaptation of the 1847 novel is being written, directed, and produced by Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell. Media Rights Capital (MRC) has engaged LuckyChap Entertainment for the production of this feature film.
'Wuthering Heights' marks third collaboration for Fennell and LuckyChap
This project marks the third collaboration between Fennell and LuckyChap, following their successful ventures with Promising Young Woman in 2020 and Saltburn in 2023, which interestingly starred Elordi. Fennell won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman. She also had a significant role in LuckyChap's $1.4B-grossing and Academy Award-winning Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie last year, which was produced by and starred Robbie.
'Wuthering Heights' to commence shooting in 2025
The adaptation of Wuthering Heights is currently in pre-production and is scheduled to start filming in the UK in 2025, reportedly. Fennell first announced her plans to adapt Wuthering Heights as her third feature film in July, with a surprise social media post featuring a quote from the novel: "Be with me always - Take any form - Drive me mad."
Robbie's admiration for Fennell's filmmaking skills
Robbie has publicly praised Fennell's unique filmmaking style after producing both of her films. In a January interview with Variety, she said: "Emerald immerses you into a world so quickly. She's so masterful at tone and plot." For those unversed, Wuthering Heights follows the tumultuous love story between Heathcliff, a brooding orphan, and Catherine Earnshaw, his childhood companion. Their passionate yet destructive relationship leads to revenge, heartbreak, and the intertwining fates of their families across generations on the Yorkshire moors.
