Celebrated Malayalam lyricist, screenwriter, and dialogue writer Mankombu Gopalakrishnan passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025. He was 78.
His death was confirmed by the hospital authorities where he had been undergoing treatment for nearly a week after suffering heart failure.
Gopalakrishnan's profound influence on the Malayalam film industry remains unmatched, with over 700 songs credited to him across more than 200 films.

Gopalakrishnan's lyrical genius transcended Malayalam cinema, making its way to pan-India with his work on films like Baahubali and RRR. He wrote the Malayalam dialogues for the blockbusters.
His work with director SS Rajamouli included writing for the Malayalam versions of Eega, Baahubali 1 & 2, and RRR.
Rajamouli took to social media to pay his condolences, noting Gopalakrishnan's "timeless lyrics, poetry, and dialogues" and their influence.
