'Manjummel Boys' director opposes film's remake in other languages
Chidambaram, the acclaimed director of the Malayalam survival thriller Manjummel Boys, has expressed his strong opposition to remaking the film in any other language. In a recent interview with PTI, he stated that while he is not against remakes in general, he believes that a movie like Manjummel Boys should never be adapted into another language. "It's a real story about a real cave and people," said Chidambaram.
Chidambaram emphasized cultural connection in 'Manjummel Boys'
Chidambaram further explained his stance by emphasizing the cultural connection that is integral to Manjummel Boys. "The cultural connection of the Kerala people, Tamil Nadu people...There are a lot of factors that helped the movie run (successfully) but if you're going to remake it, I don't know how much of it would be translated," he stated. "I don't think Manjummel Boys is a movie that should be remade in any other language."

Manjummel Boys, a survival thriller based on a real-life tragedy in the Guna caves, has been one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films this year. Made on a budget of ₹20cr, it reportedly earned over ₹240cr worldwide and is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. It features actors Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, and Deepak Parambol in pivotal roles. Regarding his next project, Chidambaram revealed that it will explore human emotions and drama with an emphasis on "an anatomy of violence."
