Kangana's 'Manikarnika', Siddiqui's 'Thackeray' leaked online by Tamilrockers
Is there an end to piracy? This is the question the makers of Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and Thackeray are struggling with. The two much-talked about movies, which released yesterday, seem to have fallen prey to the pirates, having been leaked online by public torrent website Tamilrockers. Reportedly, both Manikarnika and Thackeray were leaked within a day of their release. Here's more.
'Manikarnika, 'Thackeray' were leaked in HD quality
Sadly, this isn't the first time that a new release was targeted by this piracy giant. Several other recent releases were also leaked by Tamilrockers. The website is known for uploading pirated copies of movies of different languages. In fact, they leaked Manikarnika and Thackeray in HD quality. Earlier, movies like Petta, The Accidental Prime Minister, 2.0, etc. fell prey to piracy as well.
Despite every effort, Vicky Kaushal's 'Uri' failed to escape piracy
Surprisingly, Vicky Kaushal's war-drama Uri: The Surgical Strike was also leaked after a few days of its release. This, despite the team devising a special strategy to prevent piracy and uploading a fake movie video on torrent. The video opened exactly like the film, but soon swerved to Kaushal and co-star Yami Gautam urging viewers to 'say no to piracy'. Their efforts clearly failed.
'Manikarnika', 'Thackeray' witness a face off at box office
Manikarnika and Thackeray clashed at the box office this week. Both the movies were of the biopic genre and were highly anticipated. Thackeray is inspired by the life of late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, while Manikarnika is based on Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi's life. While Thackeray has been directed by Abhijit Panse, Manikarnika's directors are Kangana Ranaut and Krish.
Will piracy affect 'Manikarnika', 'Thackeray' business?
Coming to the performance, both Manikarnika and Thackeray have opened to rave reviews and have witnessed a decent start at the box office. Manikarnika minted Rs. 8.75 crore while Thackeray made a collection of Rs. 6 crore on the first day. On another note, since the movies have now been leaked by Tamilrockers, will it affect their overall collection? Let's wait and watch.
