Mamta Kulkarni's U-turn: Did actor withdraw resignation as Mahamandaleshwar
What's the story
In a surprising development, former actor Mamta Kulkarni has been reappointed as the Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada, merely three days after she resigned.
The news was confirmed through a video statement by Kulkarni, who now goes by the name Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri.
Her return comes after some factions of the religious order opposed her resignation.
Reinstatement details
Kulkarni's resignation was not accepted by her guru
Reports also indicate that Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi of the Kinnar Akhada did not accept Kulkarni's resignation.
In her video statement, she said, "Two days ago, some people made false allegations against my guru, Dr. Acharya Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi. In response, I resigned in a moment of emotion."
"However, my guru did not accept my resignation...I am grateful to my guru for reinstating me."
Religious path
Kulkarni's journey to sanyas and Mahamandaleshwar
Kulkarni took sanyas during the Mahakumbh last month, performing her own Pind Daan, a sacred Hindu ritual for paying homage to ancestors.
She was subsequently appointed Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada, a religious sect established under the Juna Akhara by the transgender devotees.
In her video, she reiterated her dedication to Sanatan Dharma and the Akhada.
Dispute resolution
Controversy and clarification surrounding Kulkarni's resignation
The controversy over Kulkarni's resignation was reportedly due to internal rifts in the Akhada.
Reports claimed her ouster was connected to a power tussle between the founder Ajay Das and Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, resulting in both Kulkarni and Tripathi's expulsion.
However, speaking to News24, Tripathi clarified Kulkarni would retain her title and continue her role because her resignation wouldn't be accepted.
