Malayalam film 'Vadakkan' debuts at Cannes Film Festival
The Malayalam film, Vadakkan, is set to debut at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival's Marché du Film Fantastic Pavilion. Directed by Sajeed A and produced by Offbeet Studios, the film features Kishore and Shruthy Menon in leading roles. This marks a significant milestone as Vadakkan is the only Malayalam film to be showcased in one of the seven gala screenings at this prestigious event.
'Vadakkan's unique storytelling captivates Cannes
Vadakkan transports audiences into the enchanting "Vadakkan Universe," skillfully intertwining supernatural elements with ancient North Malabar folklore. The film's technical crew boasts renowned names such as Resul Pookutty, Kieko Nakahara, Bijibal, and Unni R. Pablo Guisa, Executive Director of Fantastic Pavilion, praised Vadakkan for its "gripping narrative with a very unique storytelling format and production showcasing the strength of Indian cinema in the global genre cinema space."
'Our aim is to redefine Indian cinema...'
Jaideep Singh, the founder of Offbeet Media Group and producer of Vadakkan, expressed his ambition to redefine Indian cinema through this film. He stated, "With this movie, our aim is to redefine Indian cinema by seamlessly blending hyperlocal narratives with global sensibilities supported by the world-class cast and crew." Singh also acknowledged that presenting at the Fantastic Pavilion is a significant step for them.
'Vadakkan' set for global release and festival circuit
Following its Cannes debut on May 21, plans are in motion for Vadakkan to reach global audiences through dubbing in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu, along with releases in other regional languages. The film is also slated to participate in other major festivals over the coming months. Prior to its Cannes premiere, Vadakkan had already made history at the Brussels International Film Festival earlier this year.
