'Nothing suspicious found yet': Probe into Malaika's father's death continues
Anil Kuldip Mehta, the stepfather of Bollywood actor Malaika Arora, died of suspected suicide on September 11. He reportedly jumped off the terrace of his residence, Ayesha Manor, located in Mumbai's Bandra area. His last rites were performed on Thursday, September 12, with several Bollywood celebrities in attendance to pay their respects. The police are currently investigating the case and taking statements from Mehta's family members and doctors.
Police investigation into Mehta's death
According to a source close to the Arora family, cited by Times Now, the police are yet to determine why Mehta took such a drastic step. The source stated, "Statements continue to be taken of the family members. Nothing suspicious has been found as of now." The police are also taking statements from Mehta's doctors to investigate if he was suffering from depression, as suggested by some media reports.
Autopsy report and Mehta's last phone call
A post-mortem examination was conducted at Bhabha Hospital, which confirmed that Mehta died due to multiple injuries. Reports suggest that just before his death, he had called his daughters, Malaika and Amrita, and said, "I'm sick and tired." At the time of the incident, Mehta's wife Joyce Polycarp was in their flat. She noticed his slippers in the living room and went looking for him.
Malaika Arora's statement on her father's death
Following her father's death, Arora released a statement on Instagram. It read, "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock over this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time."
