Vinod Chopra Films unveils new project, 'Zero Se Restart'
Vinod Chopra Films has announced its next cinematic project, a film titled Zero Se Restart. The creative team behind the successful movie 12th Fail, helmed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, is spearheading this new venture. The film aims to provide an insider's view of the making of 12th Fail, a piece of cinema that became successful both commercially and critically despite not being a mass offering.
Why does this story matter?
Released in October 2023, 12th Fail narrated the extraordinary tale of a 12th fail man withstanding struggles to clear the difficult UPSC entrance exams. Starring Vikrant Massey in the lead, the film was originally thought to have ended up as a heartfelt movie watched by a few and praised by a few, only to be forgotten. Instead, the simple yet earnest true story managed to inspire everyone and it became a box-office phenomenon as well as an award-circuit favorite.
It'll be a feature-length film, a rare move in industry
According to reports, the unexpected success of 12th Fail inspired Chopra to create a full-length feature film detailing its creation. Not often do we get full-length movies of behind-the-scenes situations and clips. Speaking about it, Chopra said, "The film Zero Se Restart narrates the journey of 12th Fail, right from its inception to all the hurdles that came in its way, from no one believing in the film to the team even being advised against a theatrical release."
'Tale of triumph against all skepticism and odds'
Describing it as "a tale of triumph against all skepticism and odds," the maverick director went on to explain the project. "This film is not a lecture on how to make movies, but a fun and crazy story of how it all actually happened. After 12th Fail got so much love and support from the people, it only felt right that we share this story with them."
Box office collection of '12th Fail'
Starting with a little over ₹1 crore on the opening day, 12th Fail started doing better with good word-of-mouth. It collected around ₹13 crore in one week, putting up a total of ₹27.11 crore by Week 2. It crossed the ₹50 crore mark by Week 6 and continued in the halls for 13 weeks.
