'Maidaan' box office: Ajay Devgn's sports drama crosses ₹40cr mark
Ajay Devgn's sports biographical drama Maidaan has been struggling at the box office since its release on April 11. The film—which is pitted against the high-octane action-thriller Bade Miyan Chote Miyan—has failed to meet expectations in terms of earnings. Even positive reviews and favorable word-of-mouth have not been able to boost ticket sales. After a 17-day run in theaters, the movie has finally managed to accumulate ₹40.85cr at the Indian box office.
'Maidaan' collection breakdown: In detail
The third week of the film's release saw a significant drop in collections, falling below the ₹1cr mark. This downward trend suggests that Devgn's film may not be able to cross the anticipated ₹50cr threshold. Despite being an Eid release, it only managed to rake in ₹28.35cr in its first week. The second week saw a slight increase, bringing in ₹10cr, with the total for the second weekend standing at ₹10.25cr.
Looking at the film in numbers
The movie's third-weekend earnings have been particularly disappointing. Friday's collections plummeted to ₹70 lakh but saw a slight increase to ₹1.50cr on Saturday. Sunday's collection is anticipated to sustain this momentum. Nevertheless, a notable decline in collections is projected for the film starting from the upcoming Monday, especially due to new releases. This is a setback considering the film was an ambitious project for Devgn and took years to crawl toward completion.
