Box office: 'Maidaan's earnings slightly improve, but overall collections underwhelm
Ajay Devgn's latest sports-themed film, Maidaan, was finally released on Eid earlier this month after numerous delays. Unfortunately, it failed to meet expectations commercially, with earnings dwindling almost every day. However, on its tenth day, it witnessed a surge in box office earnings. The movie, directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, earned approximately ₹2.35 crore on Saturday, pushing the total collection to ₹32.15 crore.
Looking at the movie in numbers
Per the trade tracker website Sacnilk, the Hindi audience occupancy for Maidaan on Saturday was recorded at 20.31%. The maximum turnout was recorded during the night shows (28%), followed by the evening shows (23.89%), and then the afternoon shows (19.7%). Chennai recorded a staggering 79.33% turnout, while Bengaluru also impressed with 45.75%. It remains to be seen if the film can maintain its momentum on Sunday.
'Maidaan's storyline and star cast
Maidaan is Devgn's second big-screen appearance this year, following his successful film Shaitaan, directed by Vikas Bahl. The movie tells the life story of Syed Abdul Rahim, who served as the manager and coach of the Indian football team from 1950 until his death in 1963. The film also stars Priya Mani and Gajraj Rao in supporting roles, while Devgn remains at the movie's front and center.
'Maidaan's box office competition and Devgn's next releases
The movie is pitted against Tiger Shroff and Akshay Kumar's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. BMCM also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Alaya F, and Prithviraj Sukumaran and has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Coming back to Maidaan, it is a joint production venture by Fresh Lime Films, Bayview Projects, and Zee Studios. Devgn will next be seen in Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, Singham Again, and Raid 2.
