'Maidaan' nears ₹30 crore in first week despite challenges
Ajay Devgn's recent sports drama, Maidaan, has concluded its first week in theaters with an impressive box office collection of approximately ₹30 crore. The film managed to maintain a steady pace despite facing stiff competition and experiencing a drop in collections during weekdays. A slight surge was noted on Wednesday, contributing an additional estimated ₹2 crore to the total earnings.
'Maidaan' collected over ₹36 crore globally
Despite the release of other films like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan during the extended Eid weekend, Maidaan successfully reached the ₹30 crore mark. The film's seven-day collection amounted to approximately ₹27.1 crore nett, with early estimates from Sacnilk suggesting gross collections nearing ₹29.9 crore. Additionally, overseas markets contributed an extra ₹6.1 crore to its global box office total of around ₹36 crore.
'Maidaan' received industry support and audience approval
Maidaan has garnered substantial support from the film industry, with celebrities such as Karan Johar, Javed Akhtar, Varun Dhawan, and Shahid Kapoor actively promoting it. The film's narrative and stellar performances have resonated well with audiences, contributing to its steady box office performance amidst a competitive landscape. Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, the film features Devgn in the role of Syed Abdul Rahim whose passion for football brought immense pride to India.
It saw improvement over weekend despite initial struggles
Despite opening poorly on Eid with a collection of ₹2.6 crore, Maidaan showed some improvement over the weekend. The film recorded revenue of ₹5.75 crore on Saturday and ₹6.4 crore on Sunday. However, it failed to pass the crucial Monday test as its collections dropped to a mere ₹1.5 crore, indicating ongoing challenges in maintaining steady box office performance.
'Maidaan' struggled in opening week despite high anticipation
Despite high hopes and anticipation, Maidaan faced challenges at the box office, failing to gain momentum in its opening week. There was a slight uptick on Tuesday, with earnings around ₹1.65 crore, bringing the film's total collection for the first six days to an estimated ₹25.15 crore. Despite a budget exceeding ₹100 crore, Maidaan ranks among the lowest-performing Eid releases in recent memory.
'Maidaan' witnessed low occupancy despite ticket price reduction
In an attempt to boost ticket sales, the makers of Maidaan reduced ticket prices to ₹150 in select cinema halls. However, this strategy did not seem to improve the film's performance. On Day 6, Maidaan had an overall occupancy of 11.47%. In Mumbai and Delhi-NCR regions, where the film had 444 and 589 shows respectively, the occupancy stood at 16.60% and 11.25%. In Kolkata, where the film is set, it was slightly higher at 12.75% with 179 shows.
