'Mahabharat' serial director to adapt epic into three-part film
Mukesh Kumar Singh, the director behind the popular 2013 television series Mahabharat, has revealed plans to adapt the epic for the big screen. The project, envisioned as a three-part film series, is set to begin production in October 2025. Singh shared these details during an interaction with ETimes TV. He is currently busy with his recent directorial venture Kannappa, a pan-India film featuring an ensemble cast.
Singh seeks dedicated actors for 'Mahabharat' film adaptation
Singh expressed his desire to cast actors who won't "overshadow" the characters and will be fully committed to the project. He said, "Mahabharat is such a vast and epic saga that it's nearly impossible to capture its essence in just three parts, let alone one film." The director also revealed that he has already planned a sequel, though he did not elaborate if actors from the 2013 show will be a part of the project.
Singh's deep interest in Hindu mythology and history
Singh's decision to adapt Mahabharat for the big screen stems from his deep interest in Hindu mythology and history. He said, "I plan to make it in three parts, with production set to begin next October." Meanwhile, Singh's latest film, Kannappa, features a star-studded cast including Vishnu Manchu, Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, Madhoo, Kajal Aggarwal, and Mohan Babu. It will reportedly release in December 2024.
