Not credited for nearly 30 songs: 'Animal' lyricist Raj Shekhar
What's the story
Raj Shekhar, the acclaimed lyricist behind hit songs from Tanu Weds Manu, Veere Di Wedding, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Animal recently revealed that nearly 30 of his songs remain uncredited.
At the "Words That Sing" session of the 7th Indian Screenwriters Conference (ISC), he requested both industry insiders and audiences to make sure lyricists get their due.
Industry appeal
Shekhar's call for recognition and creative collaboration
Shekhar said, "Out of 100 songs, 28-30 of mine are not credited to me. That's just me, but what about others who can't speak up for their due credit?"
"I urge the audience to find out the name of the lyricist if they like a song. We write with such passion and hard work."
He also observed a widening gap between screenwriters and lyricists, lamenting the absence of creative collaboration with directors and writers that was once common in Bollywood.
