Dibakar Banerjee reveals 'LSD 2' was producer Ektaa Kapoor's idea
Dibakar Banerjee shocked audiences with Love Sex Aur Dhokha in 2010, and the groundbreaking anthology film was a worthy experiment in Bollywood. Now, after 14 years, he is back with the film's spiritual successor, Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2 (LSD 2). The sequel marks Banerjee's return to filmmaking after three years. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Banerjee stated that the concept for the sequel was proposed by producer Ektaa Kapoor in 2019.
'We had enough material'
Banerjee shared, "In 2019 Ekta Kapoor told me, 'Let's go ahead with LSD2.' It was her idea. We had lived an entire lifetime in that decade. And we had enough material to make a sequel." "Before that, there wouldn't have been enough life lived to make LSD2. In any case, I was busy with my Netflix series and then COVID-19 happened. After that here we are. That's why it took fourteen years."
Banerjee highlighted Kapoor's evolution as a producer
In his interview, Banerjee praised Kapoor's development as a producer. "She has become even more combative. She has realized that for content to survive in cinema, we have to look for maverick transformational original content for theatrical release, alongside the blockbusters. Otherwise, we will have to give ourselves up to the monopoly of the OTT platforms who are in no way to be blamed." "Her decision to release LSD 2 in theaters is proof of her intent."
Banerjee reflects on personal growth and future plans
Banerjee opened up about his personal growth, revealing that he has become more accepting and aware of time's value. Shedding light on his future plans, he said, "I definitely want to make one film every two years. But then things happen, the circumstances, the working conditions, the subjects that I want to make, and the subjects that producers/the OTT platforms want me to make." "The difference between what I want and what the world offers needs negotiation and time."
