Box office: 'LSD 2' fails to cross even ₹1cr mark
The much-anticipated sequel to the 2010 sensation Love Sex Aur Dhokha finally graced theaters on Friday, but alas, it fell flat, much to everyone's dismay. Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, LSD 2 failed to make a splash, barely scraping past the ₹1cr mark at the box office in three days. It found itself in the same sinking boat as Vidya Balan's Do Aur Do Pyaar, which earned ₹2.65cr in three days.
Initial three-day box office report of 'LSD 2'
The film started its theatrical run with a disappointing ₹15 lakh on Friday, followed by a meager addition of ₹12 lakh on Saturday. However, there was a slight uptick in audience turnout on Sunday, with the film earning ₹45 lakh, bringing its total nett India collection to ₹75 lakh. LSD 2 managed an overall 7.92% Hindi Occupancy on Sunday. It might face an early exit from theaters if it fails to maintain momentum over the weekdays.
What is the plotline of 'LSD 2'?
The film delves into the intertwined lives of three characters: Kulu (Bonita Rajpurohit), Game Paapi (Abhinav Singh), and Noor (Paritosh Tiwari). Their individual narratives intersect and intertwine, reflecting the challenges and nuances of contemporary life in a society consumed by social media and the internet. Produced by Ektaa Kapoor, the film offers a poignant exploration of modern-day relationships and the impact of digital technology on human connections.
Banerjee blamed limited release of 'LSD 2' on huge films
In an earlier interview with Indian Express, Banerjee discussed the challenges faced by his film, revealing that it struggled to secure enough screens due to being pre-booked for a big-budget production. He remarked, "LSD 2 has released today (Friday), there is another film that has released today, and the ground reality is that about two weeks ago another huge film released, that unfortunately didn't do well for itself."
Banerjee discussed 'Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2' themes
Meanwhile, in a separate conversation with Hindustan Times, Banerjee explained the themes of LSD 2. He stated, "I think what we are saying is that we are living with two or three contradictory truths at the same time...We are not living one truth, we are living the truth of our physical lives; we are living the absolute, indelible truth of our virtual avatars; we are living the truth of our Instagram feeds. All of them are truths!"
