'Lootera': Sonakshi-Ranveer's film to return to theaters on March 7
What's the story
The trend of re-releasing beloved films in theaters is proving to be a success, with Sanam Teri Kasam recently working its magic at the box office.
Now, Vikramaditya Motwane's critically acclaimed Lootera is reportedly set to return to the big screen on March 7.
Originally released in 2013, the romantic drama starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha is praised for its soulful music, stellar performances, and poetic storytelling.
Inspiration
'Lootera' draws inspiration from O. Henry's 'The Last Leaf'
Lootera is inspired by O. Henry's 1907 short story The Last Leaf. The film was Motwane's second directorial venture after the highly acclaimed Udaan (2010).
Set in the 1950s, the film explores the life of Pakhi (Sinha), a young woman from an aristocratic family who falls in love with a visiting archeologist (Singh). But their relationship is jeopardized by his secret double life.
Accolades
'Lootera' received praise for performances and authenticity
Upon its release, Lootera was widely appreciated for the performances of Singh and Sinha. Motwane later clarified the movie wasn't a flop, as popularly believed.
Sinha's role as a 1950s Bengali girl was particularly appreciated, with the movie's designer Subarna doing extensive research on the fashion and cosmetics of the era to make sure she looked the part.
The film was produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, and Vikas Bahl with music by Amit Trivedi.
