'Laxmii' beats opening day record of 'Dil Bechara'
Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani's Laxmii has broken the viewership record previously held by Dil Bechara on streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar. After releasing on the OTT platform on Monday, Laxmii received the biggest opening ever. "Thank you for all the love," Disney+ Hotstar wrote on social media. Earlier, 'Dil Bechara' got an equal amount of love
To note, the streaming platform had made a similar announcement about Dil Bechara, which released on July 24, more than a month after the lead actor Sushant Singh Rajput passed away. Directed by Mukesh Chhabra, Dil Bechara was based on John Green's book, The Fault In Our Stars. Upon release, the movie received good reviews, with most critics heaping praises on SSR's work.
'Laxmii' is a Hindi remake of Tamil movie 'Kanchana'
Meanwhile, Laxmii, one of the most anticipated movies of 2020, is a Hindi remake of the Tamil movie Kanchana. Directed by Raghava Lawrence, who also directed the original, the movie traced the story of Asif (Akshay Kumar) who got possessed by a ghost of a vengeful transgender. As per reports, Kanchana was the most successful Tamil movie in 2011.
However, Akshay's version of 'Kanchana' received poor reviews
While Kanchana managed to garner huge appreciation from the audience, Laxmii failed miserably. The movie was bashed for its unnecessary drama, weak screenplay, and nonsensical jokes by critics. Though Akshay lifted the movie, by transitioning terrifically between Laxmii and Asif, the rest of the cast proved to be a letdown. Sharad Kelkar's cameo was appreciated, but it didn't earn the movie lauds.
After movie opened well, Akshay thanked his fans

Among Disney+ Hotstar's offerings, only 'Dil Bechara' received immense appreciation
To recall, movies like Dil Bechara, Sadak 2, Khuda Hafiz, and Lootcase released on Disney+ Hotstar this year. While Dil Bechara garnered huge appreciation as a tribute to SSR, breaking several records, Sadak 2 starring Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt received heavy backlash. Kunal Kemmu was also applauded for his role in the comedy thriller Lootcase, but the movie tanked nevertheless.
