'No connection': Lawyer dismisses link between AR Rahman-Mohini Dey's divorces
On Tuesday, acclaimed music composer and singer AR Rahman announced his separation from his wife Saira Banu after 29 years of marriage. Hours after the news broke out, Mohini Dey, a 28-year-old bassist in Rahman's team, also revealed her divorce from husband Mark Hurtsuch on social media. The coincidental timing led netizens to speculate if there was a connection between the two separations. However, Vandana Shah, the lawyer representing Rahman and Banu, has now dismissed these rumors.
Lawyer clarified on Rahman-Dey divorce rumors
Speaking to Republic TV, Shah clarified that there is "no connection at all" between the two divorce announcements. "There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr Rahman made this decision on their own," she reportedly said. Rahman and Banu—who got married in Chennai on March 12, 1995—have three kids: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. Meanwhile, Dey is a music composer, producer, vocalist, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. She made her music debut at just nine years of age.
Rahman and Dey's respective divorce announcements
Rahman took to social media to share his separation news, writing, "We had hoped to reach the grand 30, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end." He also thanked their friends for their kindness and requested privacy during this difficult time. Similarly, Dey announced her decision to part ways with Hurtsuch in a lengthy post where she asked for privacy and no judgments from her followers.
