Late Wajid Khan's wife moves court against brother-in-law Sajid, mother-in-law
The Bombay HC recently directed late music director Wajid Khan's mother and brother Sajid to submit details about his properties and assets. This order comes in response to an appeal filed by Khan's wife Kamalrukh Wajid Khan, in which she had sought a permanent injunction against Sajid and their mother, preventing them from creating any third-party rights on the assets. Khan died last June.
Sajid has to reply to the plea by tomorrow
As per the order, Justice Gautam Patel instructed Sajid and his mother to file their replies by tomorrow. Kamalrukh had approached the court to probate a will made by Khan in 2012. According to her, the will had named her, their children and his mother, as the only beneficiaries of his assets and properties. But Sajid allegedly is trying to transfer all of these.
Khan's wife sought for will probation, injunction against Sajid
Apart from the will probate petition, Kamalrukh has also filed an interim application through advocate Zubin Behramkamdin that sought interim relief and an order restraining Khan's brother and mother from alienating her or claiming third-party rights in the properties left behind by Khan. To recall, he had passed away at the age of 42 due to a cardiac arrest after testing positive for COVID-19.
Kamalrukh also alleged her in-laws did not accept their marriage
Giving an insight into the composer's assets, his wife's petition says that Khan had amassed numerous immovable and movable assets. Further, he had a 50% share in Sajid-Wajid Limited Liability Partnership, which is the banner under which the duo produced songs. She also claimed that their marriage had not been accepted by Khan's family as she is Parsi by birth. Religious differences caused tiffs.
Khan had filed for divorce in 2014 to 'pacify' mother
Allegedly, the clash intensified when Khan started living with his wife and children. So in 2014, Khan had filed for divorce to pacify his mother, as per Kamalrukh. Divorce proceedings were dismissed due to his death. Kamalrukh thought his property would be equally distributed after his demise, but bank managers refused to give her details and were allegedly asked to avoid her.
