Lady Gaga's 'Mayhem' tops Billboard chart, dethroning Kendrick Lamar
What's the story
Lady Gaga's latest album, Mayhem, debuted atop the Billboard albums chart, dethroning Kendrick Lamar's GNX.
Meanwhile, Lamar's Luther (feat. SZA) remains atop the Hot 100 singles chart for a fourth consecutive week, marking the longest run of his career.
Notably, two versions of Doechii's Anxiety also made it onto the Hot 100, with one version scoring the highest-charting hit of her career.
Career resurgence
'Mayhem' marks Lady Gaga's return to pop music
Mayhem is Lady Gaga's first full-blown pop album since Chromatica in 2020. In the meantime, she's been busy with a Joker sequel and two underperforming Joker spinoff albums.
Despite the latter, the anticipation for her return to pop music has only grown with time.
Reportedly, the new album's streaming numbers are the highest of her career, meaning it will remain on the charts for a while.
Chart competition
'Mayhem' faces competition from JENNIE's 'Ruby' and Playboi Carti's 'MUSIC'
Mayhem faces stiff competition from JENNIE's solo album Ruby, which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Albums chart.
Another BLACKPINK member, LISA's Alter Ego, dropped from No. 7 to No. 62 as JENNIE's album entered the picture.
Further, Playboi Carti's surprise album MUSIC, which was released last Friday, is set to become one of 2025's biggest hip-hop records. It has already secured the biggest individual streaming day on Spotify of any album this year.
Chart stability
Lamar's 'Luther (feat. SZA)' maintains Hot 100 dominance
Even though Mayhem and other new releases have come out, the top 10 on the Hot 100 singles chart remain unchanged from last week.
Lamar's Luther (feat. SZA) continues to occupy the No. 1 spot for the fourth week in a row.
This is the longest any song by either Lamar or SZA has ever held down the top spot, beating both Not Like Us and Like That.
Chart milestone
Doechii's 'Anxiety' achieves career-high on Hot 100
Rapper Doechii has achieved the rare feat of having two versions of the same song, Anxiety, on the Hot 100, this week.
Generally, separate versions of a song are combined for chart metrics, but Billboard differentiates versions when they're billed to different lead artists.
The 2019 song got a new life in 2023 when Brooklyn's Sleepy Hallow used its hook in his song titled ANXIETY.
