Lady Gaga to release 'Harlequin,' a concept album: Details here
Pop icon Lady Gaga has announced the surprise release of her new album, Harlequin, set to debut on Friday (September 27). This fresh collection is touted as a "companion" to the soundtrack of her much-anticipated film Joker: Folie à Deux. In this hotly-awaited sequel to the Oscar-winning Joker (2019), Gaga plays Harley Quinn, the psychologist and love interest of DC's titular character, played by Joaquin Phoenix.
'Harlequin' features 13 tracks, including covers
Gaga unveiled the cover art for the electrifying Harlequin on Instagram, featuring her in a white dress and red life jacket, with bright orange hair and a heart seemingly washing off her face. The album comprises 13 songs, including titles like The Joker and That's Entertainment. Some tracks appear to be covers of well-known songs such as Gonna Build a Mountain.
'Harlequin' is not Gaga's next official solo studio album
It is pertinent to note that despite being marketed under Gaga's name, Harlequin is not her next official solo studio album. It has been promoted as a "companion" release to the Joker: Folie a Deux soundtrack. This was confirmed on her official website which describes the LP as: "New album Harlequin from 13-time GRAMMY(r) and Academy Award(r) winner Lady Gaga." Meanwhile, Fans, or "Little Monsters," can purchase Harlequin in several formats—CD, a digital album, or an exclusive vinyl.
'Harlequin' songs will not feature in 'Joker: Folie a Deux'
Gaga has clarified that the songs on Harlequin are not the same as those featured in the film Joker: Folie a Deux. The movie is a jukebox musical with at least 15 reinterpretations of "very well-known" songs, reported Variety. While there may be some overlap between the two, it's clear that Harlequin's tracks will serve a different purpose and all will be performed by Gaga herself. The film is set to hit theaters on October 2 in India.
