'L2: Empuraan': Prithviraj Sukumaran teases 'complex, coherent' narrative
What's the story
Actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran recently unveiled his character Zayed Masood from the upcoming Malayalam film L2: Empuraan.
In a character video released by the team on Wednesday, Sukumaran described Masood as "the mercenary commando of Khuresh Ab'raam nexus."
He also hinted at a "complex and coherent" narrative involving the UK's secret intelligence service MI:6, African cartels, and an infamous global gold and diamond trade nexus.
Character backstory
'Empuraan' to delve into Masood's past, says Sukumaran
Sukumaran revealed that his character Masood, who was first introduced in Lucifer as a mercenary commando for Khureshi Ab'raam's infamous nexus, has a rich backstory.
He said, "Like every character in this franchise, scripted by Murali Gopy, Zayed also has a past."
"You would briefly get to know what that is and how Khureshi Ab'raam became a part of that through Empuraan in the Lucifer franchise."

Narrative expansion
'Empuraan' to expand on 'Lucifer's complex world
Sukumaran also shed light on how Empuraan will build upon the intricate world introduced in Lucifer.
He explained, "In Lucifer, you have seen a complex world filled with a lot of characters and the dynamics between them."
"In Empuraan, this will increase further and you will also see the backdrop become bigger. That said, amid all this, we believe there's a coherent narrative to this story."
Star-studded cast
'Empuraan' features returning cast and new additions
The film's team has already unveiled major characters, including returning cast members Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, and Tovino Thomas.
New faces in the franchise include Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn, Eriq Ebuoaney, Kishore, and Abhimanyu Singh.
The movie is expected to be the biggest Malayalam release ever with nearly 700 screens in Kerala alone.
It will hit theaters on March 27.
