KJo to host Indian version of 'Traitors' on Prime Video!
Amazon Prime Video and All3Media International are partnering to bring an Indian adaptation of the popular reality show The Traitors, with renowned filmmaker and television personality Karan Johar as the host. The series, which follows a unique format that has won BAFTA and Emmy awards, will be produced by BBC Studios India Productions. Per Variety, the show will be exclusively available on Prime Video in Hindi, with English subtitles.
'The Traitors' format: A game of trust and deception
The Traitors involves 20 contestants housed in a royal palace, competing for a cash prize through various physical and psychological challenges. However, the twist is that some players are secretly designated as "traitors" who must eliminate the "innocents" without being detected. This format, which was first introduced in the Netherlands in 2021, has since been adapted in over 20 countries worldwide.

Nikhil Madhok, Head of Originals, Prime Video, India, expressed his excitement about the show. He added that they are thrilled to have Johar as the host to "amp up the drama and entertainment."

KJo, who has previously hosted several seasons of the celebrity talk show Koffee with Karan, expressed his enthusiasm for the new project. He said, "Having watched the UK and US versions, I have become an avid fan of the format." He also mentioned his admiration for Claudia Winkleman and Alan Cumming, hosts of the UK and US versions respectively, for their poise and suspenseful theatrics.
'Traitors' to create a new genre of fandom in India
Sabrina Duguet, Executive VP APAC at All3Media International, highlighted the collaboration with Prime Video and BBC Studios India Productions. She said it exemplifies their shared vision to deliver unique, immersive reality content that not only entertains but also engages the audience. She expressed confidence that The Traitors will create a whole new genre of fandom in India when it premieres on Prime Video. The Indian adaptation is currently in production. However, a premiere date has not yet been announced.
