Kit Harington admits 'mistakes were made' in 'GoT's final season
Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, recently opened up about the show's much-debated final season which aired in 2019. In a candid conversation with GQHype, Harington acknowledged that "mistakes were made" and attributed the perceived dip in quality to exhaustion. To recall, the finale of GoT faced widespread criticism for being rushed and for certain plot developments.
Harington said the cast was 'tired' during final season
Harington stated, "I think if there was any fault with the end of Thrones, is that we were all so f**ing tired, we couldn't have gone on longer." He agreed with the criticism that the final season felt rushed, and said, "I might agree with them. But I'm not sure there was any alternative." "I look at pictures of me in that final season and I look exhausted. I look spent. I didn't have another season in me."
'Interesting choices didn't quite work': Harington
Harington also addressed the storyline of the finale, saying, "I think there were mistakes made, story-wise, toward the end maybe. I think there were some interesting choices that didn't quite work." Despite the backlash, he told USA Today in 2021 that he was learning to be proud of their work, adding that people being upset with the ending shows how much it impacted them.
Harington talked about the canceled Jon Snow spin-off
Further in the interview, Harington also spoke about a planned spin-off focusing on Jon Snow, which is no longer in the works. He revealed, "HBO came to me and said, 'Would you consider this?' My first reaction was no. And then I thought there could be an interesting and important story about the soldier after the war." "We spent a couple of years back and forth. And it just didn't...nothing got us excited enough. In the end, I...backed out."
