Kirti Kulhari says PR game made 'Pink' about Taapsee Pannu
What's the story
Actor Kirti Kulhari, who starred in the critically acclaimed movie Pink (2016), recently opened up about feeling "sidelined" during the film's promotional phase.
Speaking to Fever FM, she revealed that co-star Taapsee Pannu was given preferential treatment and that this difference affected their relationship.
"I never do PR, and I have always been very resistant to PR, with the promotion," she said.
PR game
'It just became Taapsee's film in terms of the positioning'
Kulhari further explained, "It was just the PR machinery that kind of happened for Taapsee, especially. Because Taapsee was after (Amitabh Bachchan) in that, and it just became Taapsee's film in terms of the positioning."
"And I understood slowly even after that this is all a positioning game, which is very different from what you can do as an actor."
Relationship impact
'I think it did': Kulhari on strained relationship with Pannu
When asked if these circumstances impacted her equation with Pannu, Kulhari said, "I think it did."
"Taapsee has been nice to me, but that whole PR game—I took it very personally."
She added that initially she used to see Pink as an equal story of three girls and didn't know about industry hierarchies.
That realization came when she saw her absence from the first promo.
Career progression
Kulhari's journey post-'Pink' and learning from experience
Despite feeling "underwhelmed" by her experience with Pink, Kulhari has since made great strides in her career. She has become a household name and was last seen in Badass Ravi Kumar.
Looking back at her journey, she said she learned about PR positioning after Pink's release and ensured equal positioning for herself in later films like Mission Mangal (2019).
