'King': Shah Rukh Khan will now play 'full-fledged role'
For the last few months, there has been a blanket of uncertainty over Shah Rukh Khan's next project, King. While some reports stated that he'll play a supporting role, others claimed he has distanced himself from the action film altogether. Now, a Peeping Moon update states that King is now a "full-fledged" Khan project, with his daughter Suhana Khan essaying a "parallel lead" role. It will mark Suhana's theatrical debut.
The script has undergone rewrites and polishing
A source told the portal, "The SRK-Suhana film has undergone multiple rewrites and polishing in the past few months. The project was earlier intended to be a mega theatrical debut vehicle for Suhana, with SRK merely playing a cameo, much like he did in Alia Bhatt's Dear Zindagi." "But the script has now been altered, turning it into a proper Shah Rukh Khan film, with Suhana playing a parallel lead alongside him."
'He will play a mentor to Suhana's character': Source
Suhana made her acting debut in Zoya Akhtar's The Archies last year but was met with immense criticism online for her acting and diction. Now, her reputation among the audience might change considering King is mounted on a large scale. Pathaan director Siddharth Anand's Marflix will produce the film. Suhana-Khan's real-life father-daughter relationship will not be reflected on-screen; instead, "SRK plays a mentor to Suhana's character, who finds herself in perilous circumstances."
'King' promises high emotional stakes and world-class action
King is billed as a gripping rural action thriller with high emotional stakes and Anand is crafting world-class action sequences that aim to rival international standards. Despite its action-packed genre, King is expected to diverge significantly from Khan's previous action hits like Pathaan and Jawan. Director Sujoy Ghosh is currently refining the script, with pre-production set to kick off next month. The film aims for a release in the latter half of 2025.
Meanwhile, check out Khan's other projects
After the underperformance of Zero in 2018, Khan went on a long hiatus, only to return with historic hits in 2023. Last year, he was seen in Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki, with the first two among the most significant successes of Indian cinema. Apart from King, there is chatter about him starring in Pathaan 2 and Tiger Vs Pathaan, but these projects are yet to go on floors.
