Amazon Prime to produce documentary on King Charles; filming underway
What's the story
Amazon Prime Video has bagged the rights to make a feature-length documentary on King Charles.
According to The Times of London, filming has already begun, with the King (76) planning to use the platform to share his thoughts on how viewers can "transform people, places and ultimately the planet."
The documentary will reflect the values shared in his 2010 book Harmony: A New Way of Looking at Our World.
Production details
Documentary to provide insight into King Charles's philosophy
The documentary's production started last month in Scotland.
An insider told The Times, "Filming has started for the Amazon production and the crew have had some time with the King."
"More than any other documentary he has done before, the aim seems to be to tell the world what the King stands for and what he is all about."
It will likely be released by year-end or early 2026.
Platform selection
Amazon Prime won royal approval over other platforms
The Times revealed that multiple platforms were considered for the project before Amazon Prime got royal approval.
This is a break from tradition as members of the Royal Family have traditionally worked with established UK broadcasters such as the BBC and ITV.
Notably, King Charles's son Harry and his wife Meghan Markle signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Netflix, Amazon's rival, after moving to the US five years ago.
Royal streaming history
Previous royal ventures into streaming platforms
Harry and Meghan's documentary series on their lives was extremely popular when it was released in late 2022.
However, Harry's next projects on the Invictus Games and his favorite sport Polo didn't fare as well.
Meghan's lifestyle show With Love, Meghan was supposed to release last month but was delayed due to the catastrophic fires in LA.
It is now scheduled to premiere on March 4.
