Had five operations within 1.5yrs: Kim Kardashian on pregnancy complications
American television personality Kim Kardashian West has opened up about the health complications she suffered during and after her first two pregnancies. Kim, a mother of four, revealed she had a condition called preeclampsia, complications with the placenta, and even had to undergo five surgeries after the birth of her second child. Notably, Kim married singer Kanye West in 2014. Here's more on this.
Kim delivered her first child six weeks prematurely
In a promotional Instagram video for her loungewear brand SKIMS, Kim unveiled that at the time of her first pregnancy with daughter North (6), she had preeclampsia (also called toxemia), a potentially life-threatening complication, characterized by high blood pressure and damage to the liver and kidneys. Owing to the complications, Kim was induced into emergency labor and had to deliver North six weeks prematurely.
Kim suffered a serious pregnancy condition called placenta accreta
Kim further said that she also suffered from placenta accreta, a serious condition in which the placenta does not detach but stays attached to the uterine wall, thereby leading to severe blood loss post childbirth. "That is what women die from in childbirth," Kim said.
With her son Saint, Kim had the 'same awful delivery'
"I still continued to do the process of freezing my eggs," Kim said about her second pregnancy with son Saint (4). "I had the same awful delivery," she said. After that, Kim underwent five operations within a year-and-a-half to "fix the damage that all of that did." Kim, however, said she continued filming her reality show and photo-shoots in the meantime, despite these complications.
Kim had her two youngest children through surrogates
Kim continued to say, "So, I asked my doctors, 'Can I do it one more time?' And they were like, 'We won't even put an embryo in you; that would be like malpractice.'" Thereafter, Kim had two more children (Chicago and Psalm) through surrogates.
I am so thankful for my beautiful kids, Kim concluded
Toward the end of the video, Kim said, "I am just so thankful for my beautiful kids." "No matter how they came to me, they came to me. I am so thankful for surrogates," she added. "I would have gone through the same pain and back for the result of having my babies. It was all worth it," she concluded.
