'Killing Eve' to end with Season 4; Spin-offs being explored
British spy-thriller TV series Killing Eve will be concluding next year with its upcoming fourth season being the last. The critically-acclaimed show first debuted on BBC America in 2018 and stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer in lead roles. The official announcement for the concluding season was recently made by AMC Network on their website, which also talked about the potential spin-offs.
Based on 'Villanelle' novel series by British author and journalist
The cat-and-mouse thriller, based on the Villanelle novel series by British author and journalist Luke Jennings, has been adapted for television by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Oh, who plays the role of an intelligence agent, won a Golden Globe, SAG, and Critics Choice Award for her performance. Meanwhile, her co-star Comer, who plays an assassin in Killing Eve, won an Emmy and BAFTA for her role.
'Will be back for an unpredictable fourth and final season'
Both Oh and Comer have said that the Killing Eve journey was an extraordinary experience for them. "We will be back for an unpredictable fourth and final season (sic)," Oh said. Comer also thanked the fans who "supported us throughout" and talked about making this season memorable. "Although all good things come to an end, it's not over yet (sic)," Comer added.
Season four to start filming soon, will have eight episodes
Killing Eve is all set to start filming the concluding season early this summer. The filming, delayed due to pandemic restrictions, will begin in the UK and across Europe, and will comprise eight episodes premiering next year. Also, Laura Neal has been named the lead writer for this season, keeping in line with the tradition of introducing a new head writer for every season.
'Look forward to exploring potential extensions of this compelling universe'
President of original programming for AMC Networks, Dan McDermott, heaped praises on everyone involved in making Killing Eve a success. He talked about how the show "exploded in popular culture," paving way for potential spin-offs in the future. "We look forward to what is sure to be an unforgettable final season and to exploring potential extensions of this compelling universe (sic)," McDermott said.
