Akshay Kumar's 'Khel Khel Mein' fails despite Raksha Bandhan holiday
Akshay Kumar-starrer Khel Khel Mein failed to make a mark at the box office on Monday, despite it being a holiday on account of Raksha Bandhan. The comedy film, directed by Mudassar Aziz, witnessed a significant drop in footfalls on its first Monday. According to industry tracking website Sacnilk, the movie earned just ₹1.9 crore on Monday, taking its five-day total to ₹15.95 crore.
'Khel Khel Mein' struggles to cross ₹20 crore mark
Khel Khel Mein's box office performance has been disappointing, with the film struggling to cross the ₹20 crore mark. This is a stark contrast to Kumar's previous films, which would often achieve this figure within the first two days of release. The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 22.12%, with most viewers attending the night shows.
Film's poor performance leads to reduced number of shows
In Mumbai, Khel Khel Mein had an occupancy of 22.25% across 313 shows, while in Delhi and NCR, the occupancy was 24.75% for 406 shows. The number of shows for the film has significantly decreased in both metro cities due to its poor performance. On its opening day, Khel Khel Mein had 352 shows in Mumbai and 421 shows in Delhi and NCR.
'Khel Khel Mein' faces stiff competition from 'Stree 2'
Khel Khel Mein is facing tough competition from Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's Stree 2, which was also released on Independence Day. The horror-comedy sequel has been a box office hit, raking in ₹228 crore in India so far. Meanwhile, John Abraham-starrer Vedaa, another Independence Day release, is also struggling at the box office with five-day earnings of ₹15.5 crore.
