Is Kehlani involved in a cult? Ex makes disturbing accusations
What's the story
Javaughn Young-White, the ex-partner of R&B singer Kehlani, has reportedly filed a petition for full custody of their five-year-old daughter, Adeya Parrish.
The petition was submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 24.
According to court documents obtained by USA TODAY, Young-White is demanding that Kehlani undergo a psychological exam due to concerns about her mental health and alleged involvement in a cult.
Parental worries
Young-White expressed concerns over daughter's living environment
In the court filing, Young-White expressed his concerns about the environment Kehlani has created for herself.
He stated, "I am not here to disparage (Kehlani). However, the environment that she has created for herself is not the type of environment that a child should be living and therefore, I bring myself to the mercy and wisdom of the court to save my daughter before it is too late."
Cult influence
Allegations of cult influence on Kehlani's parenting decisions
The 27-year-old internet personality further claimed that Kehlani's alleged cult membership influences her actions and behavior, including decisions regarding their daughter's upbringing.
He also alleged that he was barred from seeing Adeya for several months due to a vision by the cult's alleged leader, Neto, who claimed Young-White posed a danger to their daughter.
Notably, he dated the After Hours singer from 2018 to 2019 and they welcomed a daughter in 2019.
Cult activities
Young-White raised concerns over daughter's exposure to cult activities
Young-White accused Neto of performing "religious ceremonies" on Adeya and another cult member, nicknamed Messiah, of bathing with the 5-year-old while under the influence of psychedelic drugs.
He expressed fear about their daughter being potentially exposed to sexual abuse by cult members who have "numerous accusations of committing sexual assault against women and young girls."
These allegations highlight his concerns about Kehlani's busy schedule and her diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
Legal demands
Young-White requested child support and name addition
In addition to custody demands, Young-White requested his surname be added to Adeya's name.
He claimed his name was omitted from her birth certificate due to a home birth "orchestrated by what I (Young-White) would describe as a cult that she belongs in."
Furthermore, he petitioned the court to require Kehlani to pay him child support.
