New project: Kirsten Dunst-Daniel Bruhl to star alongside Keanu Reeves
Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Brühl have officially joined Keanu Reeves in the cast of Ruben Östlund's forthcoming film, The Entertainment System Is Down. The highly anticipated movie is a social satire set on a long-haul flight where the entertainment system fails. The project is slated to begin production in early 2025.
Unique filming approach for Östlund's upcoming project
In a unique approach to filmmaking, two-time Palme d'Or winner Östlund has acquired a retired Boeing 747 for the project. The full-scale plane will be utilized for shooting in a studio setting, according to Deadline. More renowned actors are expected to join the cast soon, adding to the anticipation surrounding this film.
Östlund's inspiration and previous achievements
Östlund's inspiration for The Entertainment System Is Down came from a social psychological study at Virginia University titled The Challenge of the Disengaged Mind. This will be his second English-language film and seventh feature overall. His previous works include The Guitar Mongoloid, Involuntary, Play, Force Majeure, The Square, and Triangle of Sadness. His last two films earned him the prestigious Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival twice.
International collaboration and pre-sales for Östlund's film
The Entertainment System Is Down is a Swedish-German-French co-production. It brings together Östlund with his longtime colleagues, producer Erik Hemmendorff of Plattform Produktion and producer Philippe Bober from the Paris-based Coproduction Office. The latter is also handling world sales for the film. Pre-sales are expected to conclude at this week's Cannes market, marking the project's debut at the event.
