Film description
'Goodbye June' is a touching drama about sibling unity
Netflix has described Goodbye June as a "touching, yet humorous drama which sees a fractured group of siblings pull together under sudden and trying circumstances."
The film will go into production soon in the UK.
Kate Solomon, who had previously worked with Winslet on the Lee Miller biopic Lee, will co-produce the upcoming project.
Directorial motivation
Winslet's decision to direct influenced by industry responsibility
Despite initial resistance owing to the time commitment, Winslet chose to direct out of a sense of "urgency" and responsibility toward women in Hollywood.
Speaking on the How to Fail podcast, she said, "There's no way I'm ever going to do something unless I really know how to do it properly."
"The more of us [female directors] that are doing it, the more will be inspiring others to do it."
Career highlights
Winslet's previous work and recognition
Winslet recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Lee, which was also nominated for the BAFTA for Outstanding British Film of the Year.
Apart from this, she also appeared in the HBO limited series The Regime, which earned her another Golden Globe nomination.
This was a rare instance where she was nominated for two roles at the same ceremony.
