
Karan Johar unveils director, shuts trolls with '90% outsiders' claim
What's the story
Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced his next project, which he says is the "proudest film" of his production house, Dharma Productions.
The film will be directed by a debutant filmmaker, becoming the 24th new director to enter the Hindi film industry under Johar's banner.
Johar had recently addressed criticism over nepotism in Bollywood in an Instagram post and said 90% of the directors he worked with were outsiders.

Defending his way of empowering new filmmakers in his Instagram post, Johar wrote, "When I began producing films...the idea was to empower filmmakers and storytellers...to pay it forward."
"We got it right...we got it wrong but the intent was always to put out stories and films we believed in. The motive was only to either entertain, seek acclaim, or simply have fun at the movies!"

Johar also lauded the dedication of the team behind the unnamed film.
He said the director had been working tirelessly on the project for four years, overcoming pandemic-related delays and other unforeseen hurdles.
"I am inspired by the team of actors and technicians who gave the film and the team so much consistent support and love," Johar added.

The K3G director added that, both as a filmmaker and an audience member, he sincerely wishes for the team's hard work to resonate with viewers. The last film Johar directed was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which proved to be a box office hit.
