Karan Johar, Amazon Prime Video sign multi-project deal: Details inside
Dharma Productions and Amazon Prime Video have signed a deal to release the firm's three upcoming films on the platform. The pact also includes four new shows that will be churned out by the Karan Johar-owned production house. This comes several months after Dharmatic Entertainment, the OTT branch of Dharma Productions, terminated an exclusive deal with Netflix in September last year.
Why does this story matter?
The deal between Johar's company and Amazon Prime Video was launched at an event held on Thursday in Mumbai. This agreement enables the OTT giant to have the exclusive streaming rights to Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Govinda Naam Mera, and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. As of now, all the films will get released in cinema halls first after which they will hit Prime.
Know about the films
Among the three upcoming movies, Govinda Naam Mera is set to hit the theaters first on June 10, 2022. Starring Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kiara Advani, the romantic comedy has been written and directed by Shashank Khaitan. Jug Jugg Jeeyo comes next. It will get released on June 24. The comedy drama stars Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Advani.
Details about 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani'
Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani is probably the most awaited movie of the three ventures. It marks Alia Bhatt's first film after her wedding to fellow actor Ranbir Kapoor. Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Dimple Kapadia complete the cast of the Bollywood film. Also, Johar marks his directorial comeback after six years after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, starring Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
