Kapil Sharma on Sidhu controversy: He didn't support Pakistan
Days after Navjot Singh Sidhu was sacked from The Kapil Sharma Show, its host Kapil Sharma has come out in support of the cricketer-turned-politician. The comedian defended Sidhu over his controversial remarks on the Pulwama attack and clarified that the latter didn't support Pakistan. Sidhu was recently slammed when he said, "Nations cannot be blamed just for a handful of people".
Netizens slammed Sidhu for supporting terrorists, demanded his removal
The controversy started after Sidhu, while condemning the Pulwama attack that killed 40 Indian soldiers, stated that an entire nation can't be blamed "for the dastardly acts of terrorists". His comments came when the entire country is mourning. Naturally, it didn't go down well with netizens who slammed Sidhu for allegedly supporting terrorists and demanded that he be sacked from TKSS.
Reportedly, Sidhu was replaced by Archana Puran Singh
In fact, hashtags like '#BoycottSidhu' and #BoycottKapilSharmaShow' went viral on social media in no time. Following the heated controversy, the show makers decided to terminate Sidhu from TKSS with immediate effect. It was also reported that Sidhu would be replaced by actress-cum-comedian Archana Puran Singh.
Banning Sidhu is not the solution: Kapil
Addressing the issue, Kapil clarified Sidhu's statement and said, "What he said was that terrorism has no nation." Kapil also confirmed that while Sidhu has been removed from the show, banning the former cricketer isn't a permanent solution to the problem. "Because of some prior commitments of Sidhu, currently Archana is shooting with us. Sidhu is not with us at the moment," he added.
We need to look for a permanent solution: Kapil
"I believe banning people, sending Sidhu out of the show is not the right solution. If sacking Sidhu Ji was a solution, then Sidhu Ji is smart enough to walk out of TKSS himself. We need to look for a permanent solution," Kapil emphasized.
Focus on genuine issues than banning people, says Kapil
Separately, Sidhu claims he was unaware of his removal
Meanwhile, Sidhu revealed that he was unaware of his removal from TKSS and said that no official notification was sent to him regarding it. "I had to attend Vidhan Sabha's session due to which I couldn't shoot for TKSS and they got somebody else in my replacement for two episodes. If it's regarding my statement, I'll stick to what I've been saying," he added.
