Famous Kannada actor and director Kashinath dead
Kannada actor Kashinath, famous for his comic roles, died today in Bengaluru. He was suffering from cancer. With his unique style, Kashinath gave a new dimension to the Kannada film industry. He wasn't just an actor, but a director and producer too. He had also helped many others enter the industry and gain a foothold. Kashinath is survived by his wife and two children.
Four decades of directing, producing and acting in films
Kashinath started his four-decade career in the Kannada movie industry by directing the movie 'Aparoopada Athitigalu' in 1975. As an actor, he has appeared in over 40 films including 'Anubhava', 'Avale Nanna Hendthi', 'Anantana Avantara' and 'Hendathi Endhare Haygirabeku.' He directed and produced films in Hindi and Telugu too. Kashinath was last seen in the movie 'Chowka', which released last year.
Godfather to many popular actors, directors and others
Kashinath was also known for bringing in many new talents in the industry, who went on to become popular artistes. Some among them include director Sunil Kumar Desai, actor Upendra and music director V Manohar.
Tributes pour in on social media
Tributes poured in from all quarters. CM Siddaramaiah called it "a loss to the Kannada film industry." "Shocking to Know Kashinath Sir is no More," wrote Puneeth Rajkumar. "So saddened to know about the demise of Kashinath sir. He was a kind & learned man," tweeted Ganesh. "This was the final selfie with Kashinath," filmmaker Ramesh Aravind shared a picture with the actor-director.
